TriHDI Meeting 8/7 – Communications Forum

                How often do you experience communication issues or frustrations with other teams you work with or perhaps within your own teams?  We will discuss how to improve communications and improve inter-team relationships as a result.

 The morning session will consist of two speakers and a networking break.  You will gain an understanding of how to focus on the issues at hand and not the dynamics of people or emotions.  Our subject matter expert Kerry Ahrend will point out some of the communication challenges that we face on a daily basis and how to address each situation differently.   We will also have a session on Crucial Conversations which shows you how to improve communications when the stakes are high, when emotions are high or when you need to achieve a goal as a result of the conversation.    You will learn how to keep all parties engaged in open dialogue so that you will be able to have a more successful outcome.

Kerry Ahrend: Dynamics of Communications

Owner of Ahrend Coaching & Training

Kerry Ahrend, M.S., PMP has travelled extensively throughout the U.S., Canada, and internationally delivering training and performance improvement interventions to Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, non-profits, and small entrepreneurial companies in the best practices of project management, leadership development, team building, communications, negotiation skills, conflict resolution, and business process analysis.  For over 15 years Kerry has worked with individuals and organizations to increase skills and competencies and help them meet their challenges with confidence. 

Kerry has a Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management, a Master’s certificate in Project Management from George Washington University, and is qualified to administer the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI®), the Strength Deployment Indicator (SDI®), as well as the DiSC®.  In addition to delivering training solutions, Kerry is a certified career coach.  She works with professionals and those in transition to assess their skills, strengths, core competencies, and other essential information to help map out a career and communication strategy.  On the personal side, Kerry has been a coach for North Carolina Special Olympics Alpine Skiing for the past 12 years and she volunteers with Neuse River Golden Retriever Rescue and LoveMuttsRescue where she helps to fund raise, foster, and find loving “forever homes.”

Ed has been with Martin Marietta Materials for 42 years and has been training for Martin Marietta for the past 13.  Ed mostly delivers leadership training to Martin Marietta.  Some of which include Situational Leadership, Biz Wiz and Crucial Conversations.  Other programs such as Effective Supervisory Practices, High Performance Management, The Leader’s in Safety, and the Leadership Institute have been designed in-house by Ed to meet the company’s specific needs. 

 Ed has a strong commitment to education and partners with a significant amount of educational institutions to recruit young graduates to Martin Marietta.  He has also served on many educational boards.  He is well known and respected within Martin Marietta for his ability to ignite the passion within a person to keep growing and learning.
